This wire is flexible enough to be used on straights, curves and hills. The vehicles are fitted with a motorised chassis and rechargeable battery which pushes the vehicle forwards via a small motor and gear arrangement, following the guide wire. The magnet offset to one side on the chassis is what activates the various additional modules (more on those later).

The motor that drives the paper path in laser printers is brushless. They are build differently than servo or brushed motors. There are no places where metal is rubbing against metal. Brushless motors will last longer, spin faster, help batteries last longer. They have three wires instead of two. There are two types: inrunner and outrunner.

Working safelyDisconnect both terminals of the battery before doing any work on wiring other than testing. Whenever you work on the car, watch for any part of the loom coming loose from its clips, for there is a risk of it getting trapped or burned. Always replace wiring in its clips.

In fact, it is recommended, because the IC pad pitch is just 0.5 mm, that only one solder mask opening should be used for all four pads on one side. It is also suggested, when using solder paste printing, that a laser-cut stainless steel stencil with trapezoidal walls and with a stencil thickness of 0.1 or 0.125 mm should be used. Wires are usually connected to components by plastic-covered terminals which push on to a blade on the unit called a spade terminal. Nearly all types of terminals should be fitted to the wire with crimping pliers. There are a few types such as the "Scotchlok" which are secured by clips. For additional security, you can add solder to the wire.

You can also see that I’ve made it very easy for heat to move away from the regulator (U1) and into the ambient environment or into other portions of the PCB. U1’s thermal tab is connected to a large copper pour, and this copper pour is shot through with vias that conduct heat down to the internal ground plane. If I were really worried about thermal issues I could also connect these vias to a copper pour on the bottom side of the board, but in this case, it would have been total overkill.

RC servos are used to provide actuation for various mechanical systems such as the steering of a car, the control surfaces on a plane, or the rudder of a boat. Due to their affordability, reliability, and simplicity of control by microprocessors, they are often used in small-scale robotics applications. A standard RC receiver (or a microcontroller) sends pulse-width modulation (PWM) signals to the servo. The electronics inside the servo translate the width of the pulse into a position. When the servo is commanded to rotate, the motor is powered until the potentiometer reaches the value corresponding to the commanded position.

I think that this approach results in an easier design process and a better board. The AWG layout progresses from left to right: from power input and communication input/output, to the power supply circuitry, to the processor, to the DAC (which is controlled by the processor and constitutes the board’s transition from digital to analog), to the analog signal-conditioning circuitry, and finally to the output connector. Parts that don’t have a specific position in the functional flow—such as the oscillator (U4), the DAC’s passives (C16, R5, etc.), and the voltage reference (U3)—are arranged near the components that they support.
