Push a screwdriver blade through the grommet carefully to enlarge it for the new cables, taking care not to damage insulation on existing wires. If you pass a cable through a new hole, fit the hole with a grommet. To pass wires up door pillars or behind trim, tape them to a piece of fairly stiff wire, poke it carefully behind the trim or up the pillar, and pull it through at the far end, bringing the wire with it.

The ease of loading and unloading the PCBs, as well as the ability to handle multiple PCBs, are important in high production lines. In addition, fixtures should provide thermal protection to the heat sensitive areas of the PCB.

Resistance between common wire and coil-end wire is always half of the resistance between coil-end wires. This is because there is twice the length of coil between the ends and only half from center (common wire) to the end. A quick way to determine if the stepper motor is working is to short circuit every two pairs and try turning the shaft. Whenever a higher than normal resistance is felt, it indicates that the circuit to the particular winding is closed and that the phase is working.

Where they run through a hole, the sharp edges are lined with a rubber grommet. Sometimes the loom is divided into sections joined by multi-pin plugs and sockets, so that it can be removed and refitted section by section.

STARTER SOLENOID "Relay" — All cars are wired so that the batterys main cable connects to the starter motor windings "the thick cable is needed for large current flow, right?". This wire must be switched on and off, of course, and it would be costly and inefficient to route it through the ignition switch "not to mention the size of the switchs components required to carry such current!". Consequently, a relay is necessary.

When the wire is energized the iron core will be drawn down the length of the coil, the direction dependent upon the direction of current flow. If the relays iron core is fitted with large, high current-carrying contacts it can be used as a high-current switch. Relays are used throughout cars for horns, electric fans, air conditioning clutches, etc. and the most important one is the starter solenoid.

STARTER MOTOR — This is a powerful electric motor that engages the cars flywheel in order to spin the crankshaft. As in all electric motors, the starter is composed of windings of wire that form loops, ending at the commutator segments "remember these from the generator". The armature coils are mounted on the motors central shaftsupported with bearings and the field coils are formed into four or more "shoes", placed inside the steel frame of the starter.

And while a reset may also be externally generated by issuing a command (referred to as a soft reset), to achieve a full reset it is recommended to use the nReset pin (or of course you can also cycle power). On the other hand, if this pin is not to be used then it is recommended that it is either left floating or tied to VDD via a series resistor of value ≥2 kΩ.
