When the plunger is pulled into the coil all the way, the pinion fully engages the ring gear. When the ring gear is fully engaged, engine cranking begins. When the engine starts the hold-in coil will cut out and the plunger will move out, retracting the pinion and opening the starter switch.

Depanelization is the process of separating the individual boards from the main array and usually depends on the panelization method applied. The choice depends on the clearance to provide at the edges of the PCB, and the presence of sensitive SMT devices, or hanging connectors near the edges. There are automatic methods, such as the laser cutting or depaneling router, as well as manual methods that involve breaking the tabs using hands or other tools.

I think that this approach results in an easier design process and a better board. The AWG layout progresses from left to right: from power input and communication input/output, to the power supply circuitry, to the processor, to the DAC (which is controlled by the processor and constitutes the board’s transition from digital to analog), to the analog signal-conditioning circuitry, and finally to the output connector. Parts that don’t have a specific position in the functional flow—such as the oscillator (U4), the DAC’s passives (C16, R5, etc.), and the voltage reference (U3)—are arranged near the components that they support.

Use a 25-65 watt iron for most work, and a 150-250 watt one for large cables, or an 8 oz (225 g) gas-heated iron. Working safelyDisconnect both terminals of the battery before doing any work on wiring other than testing. Whenever you work on the car, watch for any part of the loom coming loose from its clips, for there is a risk of it getting trapped or burned. Always replace wiring in its clips.

A stepper motor is a polyphase AC synchronous motor (see Theory below), and it is ideally driven by sinusoidal current. A full-step waveform is a gross approximation of a sinusoid, and is the reason why the motor exhibits so much vibration. Various drive techniques have been developed to better approximate a sinusoidal drive waveform: these are half stepping and microstepping.

Making repairs to the loom Use a circuit tester to check if single wires are damaged. The wiring loom itself seldom goes wrong, but after other repairs have been made, a cable may be trapped and its insulation cut through, causing a short circuit.

As in all electric motors, the starter is composed of windings of wire that form loops, ending at the commutator segments "remember these from the generator". The armature coils are mounted on the motors central shaftsupported with bearings and the field coils are formed into four or more "shoes", placed inside the steel frame of the starter.

It’s always good to be cognizant of trace lengths when you’re laying out a parallel bus, though at moderate frequencies it is nothing to stress about. The propagation time for a signal traveling through a trace is maybe 150 picoseconds/inch. So if you have two traces with a length mismatch of one inch, one signal will arrive 150 ps after the other signal. If your signals are transitioning at a frequency whose corresponding period is much greater than 150 ps, this one-inch mismatch won’t cause problems. Even at 100 MHz (which is pretty fast for a parallel bus), the period is 10 ns, i.e., ~67 times larger than the time-of-arrival discrepancy for a one-inch mismatch.

The datasheet states (see image below) that this IC—specifically the CMOSens® technology that it uses—is "designed for mass production." Umm, should not this go without saying? I have seen datasheets state "not recommended for new designs," but I do not ever recall seeing one that specifies that the IC, or its underlying technology, is designed for mass production. This benefit makes me question if Sensirion has other ICs that are in fact not designed for mass production. It is all a bit puzzling. Have you seen other IC datasheets call this out? If so, please let us know.

And while a reset may also be externally generated by issuing a command (referred to as a soft reset), to achieve a full reset it is recommended to use the nReset pin (or of course you can also cycle power). On the other hand, if this pin is not to be used then it is recommended that it is either left floating or tied to VDD via a series resistor of value ≥2 kΩ.
